Mitutoyo Euro-C A544 to CRYSTA-Apex V 574 with a Renishaw SP25M probe system.
Overview –
To support increasingly complex parts, tighter tolerances and faster turnaround expectations, Oracle Precision made a strategic investment in next-generation metrology technology.
The Challenge
For many years, Oracle Precision successfully relied on a Mitutoyo Euro-C A544 (CMM) to support its quality inspection requirements. While dependable, evolving customer demands highlighted the need for:
- Faster inspection throughput
- Improved scanning capability for complex and free-form geometries
- Greater accuracy stability under normal shop-floor temperature conditions
- A future-proof metrology platform aligned with digital manufacturing strategies
Maintaining competitive advantage required a step change in measurement capability.
The Solution
Following a detailed evaluation, Oracle Precision upgraded to a Mitutoyo CRYSTA-Apex V 574 CMM and installed a Renishaw SP25M scanning probe system.
This advanced combination delivers significantly enhanced measurement performance, speed and flexibility, enabling Oracle Precision to meet both current and future inspection requirements with confidence.
Why CRYSTA-Apex V 574?
The CRYSTA-Apex V 574 was selected to replace the Euro-C A544 due to its superior performance and long-term value:
- Higher accuracy and repeatability, supporting tighter tolerance verification
- Faster measuring speeds and optimised scanning paths, reducing inspection cycle times
- Real-time thermal compensation, ensuring reliable results in typical shop-floor environments
- Smart factory readiness, supporting digital data capture, traceability and integration
- Scalability and upgrade potential, protecting long-term investment
Renishaw SP25M Probe System
The installation of the Renishaw SP25M analogue scanning probe further enhances the system’s capability. Designed for high-speed, high-accuracy scanning, the SP25M allows Oracle Precision to efficiently measure complex features and free-form surfaces with exceptional detail.
Key benefits include:
Excellent repeatability for batch and repeat work
Reduced inspection times through continuous scanning
Higher point density, improving measurement confidence
The Result
The upgrade has delivered clear operational and commercial benefits:
- Faster inspection cycles and improved throughput
- Greater confidence in quality on complex, high-precision components
- Enhanced capability to support demanding customer applications
- Increased engagement and confidence within the quality team
Staff Training
support the introduction of the Mitutoyo CRYSTA-Apex V and Renishaw SP25M system, Oracle Precision Ltd has also invested in targeted staff training to ensure the new technology is used to its full capability.
Our quality inspectors will be attending three specialist Mitutoyo training courses. The “Scanning CNC with SP25” course will focus on effective scanning techniques, enabling faster and more consistent measurement of complex and free-form components. This will help reduce inspection times while maintaining high levels of accuracy.
The “MCAT1000PS” course will strengthen our team’s ability to analyse measurement data and assess form and profile results with confidence, supporting robust quality decisions.
In addition, the “MYCAT Planner” course will improve offline programming and inspection planning, reduce machine downtime and improving overall inspection efficiency.
Together, these courses ensure that Oracle Precision’s investment in advanced metrology equipment is fully supported by skilled personnel, reinforcing our commitment to quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.
Conclusion
By upgrading from a Mitutoyo Euro-C A544 to a CRYSTA-Apex V and integrating a Renishaw SP25M scanning probe system, Oracle Precision Ltd has significantly strengthened its metrology capability.
This investment demonstrates a commitment to quality, innovation and continuous improvement, providing customers with assurance that every component is inspected using state-of-the-art measurement technology.
